LATEST DEVELOPMENT (Friday, July 18, 2008)
Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Washington DC., NAACP and Democratic District E Committee join the struggle with Harbor View Association, Village Creek,
Wilson Point, Meadow Gardens, Neighborhood Coalition for Open Government -a coalition of residents-, Shorefront Park and residents of South Norwalk.
In recent communications, John C. Brittain, Esq. Chief Counsel and Senior Deputy Director Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law in Washington DC has pledged their support and legal assistance
on behalf of the residents of South Norwalk.
Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law are ready to proceed with an injunction against the city in what amounts to environmental injustice, placing the health, the lives of an entire community at risk
and discrimination against the residents of South Norwalk which includes a predominant population of minority residents. Robert Burgess provided substantive information for the basis of the injunction on the
environmental injustice impact and discrimination against minorities and peoples of low income.
The local chapter of the NAACP has publicly announced their endorsement and support pledging to contact their National and State organizations for adding the legal resources at their disposal.
In a latest development this morning (July 18, 2008), Robert Burgess has been informed that an injunction is ready to be filed in Federal Court for environmental impact and discrimination against minorities
in the event that the city council of Norwalk votes YES to proceed with the expansion of the Meadow Street Transfer Station. Once the court and DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) documents
are filed the legal process will take its due course until the courts reach a final decision placing the expansion of the Meadow Street Transfer Station in the hands of the federal legal system.
This struggle will be taken to the highest legal levels available to the residents of the South Norwalk communities. Democratic District E Committee joined with their public support for the People of South
Norwalk.
CITY HALL HEARING (Thursday, July 17, 2008)
Thursday, July 17, 2008. At a hearing presided by Fred Bondi which included a panel of council members, William Krummel (DPW Committee Chairman), Steven Serasis, Laurel Lindstrom, Michael
Geake, Carvin Hilliard, Andrew Conroy, Richard Bonefant and Doug Hempstead received an "ear full" of complaints regarding the detrimental effect of using the Meadow Street Transfer Station and the
lack of public services in South Norwalk. The battle for improving the quality of life of the South Norwalk communities continues.
The contrast between multitudes of speakers venting their views in opposition of the city’s plan to dump more trash in South Norwalk and less than a handful of speakers expressing themselves in favor
of the measure was striking.
Mayor Dick Moccia’s choice of selecting Fred Bondi to preside over the hearing was, to say the least, ill conceived. Fred Bondi is viewed by most residents of the affected communities as one of the
principal advocates for inflicting more pain and suffering on the residents of South Norwalk and he showed it by preventing some members of the public from completing their presentation despite loud calls
from many other attendees to “let her/him finish” to no avail . Mr. Bondi was reminded on several occasions during the hearing of prior statements he’s made in connection with his support for dumping
more trash on the area.
Walter Briggs read a Resolution by Democratic District E Committee in “support for environmental justice for South Norwalk and oppose the expansion of the use of the Meadow Street Facility to
handle garbage”
If Mayor Dick Moccia and city council members are really concerned about the health impact and pollution in the area they will cease and desist, and immediately order a Phase I and Phase II environmental
study of the entire area in order to determine and resolve the environmental problems of the area.
Michael Geake remains strangely quiet about his support for the communities he represents in South Norwalk.
We urge all Democratic members of the council to stick together and withdraw any support from Fred Bondi on this and all issues because Fred Bondi clearly does not represent the principles of the
Democratic Party.

a $2.4 million dollar surplus for Norwalk. But, Norwalk streets have been deteriorating for over 30 years. DPW requested $400,000.00 for citywide projects,
but the city limited the amount to $250,000. Meanwhile, Moccia continues to withhold funds.
FARMERS MARKET DRIVEN OUT OF NORWALK ON PETTY ARGUMENT. Republican Mayor Richard Moccia said "the farmers market is no different than any other
Norwalk business whose customers pay to use the city’s metered lots" Many families in Norwalk can use the convenience and low prices of the Farmers Market.
Dick Moccia, "Politics More Important Than Public Service?" Norwalk Republican Mayor Dick Moccia on Mayoral Endorsement before the Fairfield
County Building Trades. "Two years ago it was a surprise, Moccia said. This time, I really am overwhelmed by you coming here and advocating my candidacy.
The office of the mayor is important to me, but your support and your friendship … is more important, and I appreciate that," Moccia added.
Republican Mayor Moccia turned his back on city homeowners and taxpayers when he supported Republican Gov. Jodi Rell's opposition and veto
to the bonding package. The package included $3.2 million for flood control projects in Norwalk. Detrimental Results of Gov. Rell's VETO. Stamford,
Norwalk, Greenwich and other municipalities welcomed the bond package passed by the Democratic majority. But Gov. Rell's veto of a bond package
interrupted the flow of state grants for school construction since summer. The fiscal year began July 1, but it was late September before the General
Assembly's Democratic majority passed a $4.6 billion borrowing plan. (delay was due to continued opposition by Gov. Rell and Republican legislators)
The Norwalk Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 830 GET UNFAIR PAYBACK AFTER SUPPORTING DICK MOCCIA IN '2005. MOCCIA'S RAZOR THIN '2005 WIN
BY 179 VOTES WAS ATTRIBUTED TO FIREFIGHTERS' PUSH. NORWALK FIRE FIGHTERS ASSOCIATION IAFF LOCAL 830 INCREASE LEGAL RELIEF FUND TO FIGHT MOCCIA'S
ADMINISTRATION. In September, 2007 NORWALK FIRE FIGHTERS ASSOCIATION IAFF LOCAL 830 informed their membership about a new item for voting in the online voting section regarding
an increase in union dues to build the Legal Relief Fund at a faster rate to offset the costs of hiring powerful attorneys to combat the (Moccia's) administration's ongoing efforts to take away (Firefighters) benefits
year after year. The association was requesting all members to cast a vote so they know where to go with this in the future, they said.
DICK MOCCIA CITY-WIDE MAILING - OCTOBER 15, 2007 Misleading information to voters and misrepresentations.
- City has major parking problems at 50 Washington Street Municipal Parking where many business owners are complaining regarding the city's
unfair parking and fees practices on Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening hours (their busiest days) where local customers have a hard time parking
to get goods and services from shops in the area.
- OPEN SPACES. Aside from the development projects; many of them were already in the planning stages when Moccia took office and controversial
due to potential increased traffic, increased density, increased school attendance (with no new school building projects in the works) and a few movie
industry activity around town at a limited and temporary revenue of approx. $5,000.00 a clip, no other business climate stimulation has been envisioned
for the city. Where are the "new" open spaces that Moccia is taking credit for?
- Republican Mayor Moccia "very gratified" about dismal crime statistics. "When you discount some crime categories,
